eating healthier really doesn’t have to be boring & lifeless. we believe that a few adjustments and tweaks to your favourite Asian dishes go a long way in making sure you’re having balanced meals and keeping your body’s need in check.
here’s a simple recipe for shrimp wantons we made recently, with a reduced amount of seasoning, highlighting the naturally sweet flavour of fresh prawns.
Shrimp Wantons
serves 2 - 3
10 medium shrimp, minced coarsely
150g broccoli
1 medium carrot, peeled
1 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
1 tsp ground white pepper
1 packet wanton skin
water, for boiling and wrapping
directions
blanch the broccoli and carrot in boiling water for 1 minute. strain out and submerge in ice water to stop the vegetables form cooking further. drain them out of the ice water and chop the vegetables into small pieces.
in a bowl, combine minced shrimp, vegetables, soy sauce and pepper. using chopsticks or hands, mix it all together evenly.
wet the edges of the inner part of the wanton skin. fill up the wanton skins with ~2 tsp worth of filling. wrap and seal the edges tightly to make sure the filling does not escape when boiling.
submerge wantons into boiling water. cook until the wanton skin turns translucent. strain out and serve on a plate or in a soup.
